About Michel Foucault

Michel Foucault, French philosopher and historian, is famous for his critical study of social institutions including prison systems, the human sciences and medicine. German philosopher and classical philologist Friedrich Nietzsche provided Foucault with a longstanding inspiration. Aligned with Nietzsche’s Genealogy of Morals, Foucault’s work on a “genealogy of knowledge” remains influential for philosophers, social theorists and many other contemporary thinkers.
